In Collusion: Data Culture - artist's lab

Looking forward to the New Year - I'm going to be heading to Cambridge to take part in a week thinking about data culture.

Over my career as a designer I have worked frequently with science and technology academics and researchers, in particular at the Institute of Food Research at the start of my career and over the recent years with Imperial College. My role has been to help interpret and communicate the results of their research through diagrammatic material. I'm looking forward to the opportunity to work with technologists as an artist, to explore and communicate something from a different paradigm and to explore non-conventional ways of signifying or demonstrating data.

I am fascinated by how there exists such a massive volume of data, information and communication that it becomes so fleeting that it becomes simultaneously almost invisible in the scheme of things, and yet permanently there and inexorably building up into a picture that has a tangible quality when considered from afar. How the fleeting can be imprinted in the mind and create an overall impression through repetition, the subliminal message, and/or the blurring of the distinctions between discrete elements.
