Films
Some of my films link directly to a single specific poem, written by others or by myself. Others are more loosely poetic, using texts found, adapted or extracted from a variety of sources. As a genre, experienced curator Marie Craven describes poetry film (also known as videopoetry) better than I could:
"Videopoetry is a genre of film-making with origins reaching far back into cinema history, especially within the areas of the experimental and avant garde. Beyond this, it is a modern manifestation of poetry itself, which began in ancient time as an oral form, and has been adapting and evolving with new technologies ever since." - Marie Craven - Poetry + Video
Many of my films use 'flicker film' technique. I have written about my flicker film technique for PoetryFilm Kanal magazine and you can read full article on their site.
Comments on my work:
"Just pure creativity – and totally unique – I haven’t seen anything like it before." - Sarah Tremlett
"Brilliantly edited ... and with a truly evocative soundscape ... expressed so much in such a relatively short film" - Dr Niall Munro, Oxford Brookes Poetry Centre
"I've always struggled with poetry, but this is really captivating" - Merete Hawkins
