Background

If I’m honest I think I always had a secret ambition to be an artist. I would pour over the ‘Holding an exhibition’ page of the KnowHow Book of Print and Paint and dream of pegging my creations to a string in the front garden.

But an art teacher who was obsessed with pencil drawing and my own impatience and lack of inspiration in that area led me to try my other passions: my Mum’s hand Singer sewing machine and the Gestetner duplicating machine in my Dad’s office.

The sewing machine took me to experimenting with textile and craft techniques and a course in Textiles and Fashion at Brunel College, Bristol.

Then my fascination for mechanical replication led me to a BA Hons degree in Typography & Graphic Communication at the University of Reading, graduating in 1994.

Since then I have worked continuously as a freelance graphic designer, designing newsletters, leaflets, brochures, adverts and posters for a wide range of clients, large and small. See here for examples.

Meanwhile, a return to experimenting with textiles has brought me to a point where I am exhibiting my art (but no pegs and no pencil drawings). Take a look here.

I work in my studio in Ascot, Berkshire.
